TOPIK II (Intermediate + Advanced) is open to anyone who wants to prove their Korean proficiency at levels 3 through 6. Unlike many standardized tests, there are no hard prerequisites — no minimum age, no specific educational qualification, and no nationality restriction. Who can take TOPIK II?
Any individual, regardless of nationality or academic background, can register for TOPIK II. The test is designed for non-native Korean speakers. Native speakers are not eligible.
- No age limit – There is no minimum or maximum age.
- No education requirement – You do not need a high school diploma, college degree, or any certificate.
- No prior TOPIK level needed – You can skip TOPIK I and directly attempt TOPIK II.
Nationality & residency rules
TOPIK is administered globally. You can take the test in India, South Korea, or any other country with a test center. There are no citizenship or visa restrictions.
- Indian citizens, NRIs, and foreign nationals living in India can all register.
- Candidates residing in South Korea on a student visa (D-2), work visa (E-series), or tourist visa (C-3) are also eligible.
- No proof of residency is required at registration.
Special category rules
Test-takers with disabilities
TOPIK provides accommodations for candidates with disabilities — extended time, separate rooms, or assistive technology. You must submit a request during registration and provide supporting documentation (medical certificate). Approval is at the discretion of the National Institute for International Education (NIIED).
Korean diaspora (ethnic Koreans)
If you are an ethnic Korean but not a native speaker of Korean, you are eligible. However, if you grew up speaking Korean as your first language, you may be considered a native speaker and might not be allowed to register. When in doubt, check with your local test center.
Minors
There is no lower age limit, but candidates under 18 may need parental consent. Check the specific guidelines of your test center — policies vary by country.
Do you need TOPIK I before TOPIK II?

What about TOPIK I vs TOPIK II?
TOPIK I covers beginner levels 1 and 2. TOPIK II covers intermediate (3, 4) and advanced (5, 6). If you have studied Korean for at least 6 months or can handle intermediate grammar and vocabulary, TOPIK II is likely your target.
Can I take TOPIK II multiple times?
Yes. There is no limit on the number of attempts. You can retake the test in any subsequent session.
