TEF Québec (TEFAQ) — the oral French test for Quebec
TEFAQ (TEF adapté pour le Québec) is the oral-only version of the TEF used for Quebec economic immigration. You sit just two modules — Compréhension orale and Expression orale — and your levels feed the Quebec selection grid, where French is the single highest-leverage factor.
What's on the TEFAQ
- Compréhension orale (CO) — 60 questions · 40 minutes · listening comprehension.
- Expression orale (EO) — 2 sections · ~15 minutes · Section A (obtain information) + Section B (argue / convince).
- No reading, writing or lexique modules — TEFAQ is oral-only. (If you also need written French for another program, sit the full TEF or TEF Canada instead.)
How it's scored
Each oral ability is reported as a niveau on the échelle québécoise des niveaux de compétence en français (MIFI's own 1–12 scale) — not a pass/fail. Our mock gives you a per-skill niveau plus your overall (weakest-skill) niveau, so you know exactly where you stand against the niveau 7 immigration threshold that unlocks French points on the Quebec selection grid, before you pay for the real sitting.
Who should take TEFAQ vs TEF Canada
- Quebec-only (PSTQ / Arrima / CSQ) → TEFAQ is enough and cheaper — you only need the two oral abilities for the bulk of the French points.
- Federal Express Entry (or both) → take TEF Canada (all four skills, NCLC-scored, accepted federally and by Quebec) so you don't sit two exams.
